I enjoyed researching for this blog. One of my favorite sources is a small, octagonal book, Sailors' Valentines, by John Fondas. I was fortunate to meet John when he dropped in my shop. I've also done some work for him. He is an interesting guy who has a fantastic collection of valentines himself, and has built museum-quality collections for clients. Pick up the book--you won't be disappointed. It even comes in a lovely octagonal box.

Hi,
Your shell designs makes me think that "the skies the limit". I enjoyed visiting your website. I was amazed by your chandelier designs most of all. Also, I viewed your you tube tutorial on shells on a picture frame. My question is... what type of epoxy would you recommend to be the best to used when gluing shells on a frame, etc? Thank you for your response:)

Hi Christa : I just read your blog about Shell Art History. You mention two Curiosity Shops located in Barbados. In my current and on going research the Belgrave Shop was in Bridgetown Barbados up until 1925. Now the other shop re: Shell Oil was in the East End of London. Now if there was a second shop in Barbados I have not found it as yet. One of the interesting things I have found is the BH Belgrave Shop did`nt open until 1878 which puts an interesting twist on Valentines with BH Begrave label on the back as far as dating goes. Another point on dating, my research also tells me that Valentines with the GG Belgrave label did not come into play until some ware around 1880. Your article is one of the best I have read on the subject in quite a some time. Thank you. Bill Jordan

I am impressed, Very rarely do I discover a blog that is both educative and entertaining. Your thoughts are important; the issue is something that not enough people are speaking intelligently about. I'm very happy that I stumbled across this in my search for something relating to it.
